Partner Spotlight - EcoChit x Provence Marinaside Restaurant

Next to the sparkling waters of Vancouver’s False Creek, the award-winning Provence team has been welcoming visitors and Yaletown locals for over two decades. Provence Chefs and Sommeliers collaborate to create menus that highlight amazing food and wine pairings, celebrating seasonal produce and sustainable Ocean Wise seafood.

But they also wanted to put their commitment to sustainability right into the hands of their customers and employees.

EcoChit receipts – a small, but highly visible commitment.

Purchasing Manager Scott Na appreciates being able to make a difference.
“It’s great to work with people who care about the restaurant, and doing a good job, and who trust you to make good decisions,” he says, “Until we talked to EcoChit I wasn’t aware that many receipts have toxic chemicals.”

As part of a group of substances known as ‘forever chemicals’, Bisphenol-A and Bisphenol-S are commonly found in thermal receipt paper, and have been linked to hormone disruption and other health issues.

“With all of the other toxins we don’t even know about, it’s important to reduce that as much as we can,” says Na, “Step by step we can each do something to help the planet.”

Bartender Max Westerveld has been working at Provence Marinaside for over 5 years.

“I probably touch thousands of receipts a year,” he says, “I really didn’t have any idea about the potential toxicity of regular thermal receipt paper. I probably don’t pay enough attention to it for my own health, but I definitely feel better handing out EcoChit receipts to my customers.”

Ocean Wise - A sustainability message that goes beyond local.

The environmental side of the EcoChit philosophy also really aligns with other sustainability priorities at Provence Marinaside. The Ocean Wise EcoChit seaforestation project off of the coast of Vancouver Island fits perfectly with the restaurant’s commitment to serve Ocean Wise seafood. Companies who choose EcoChit help contribute to the replanting of Kelp forests. This seaweed plays a vital role in marine ecosystems – creating important habitat and nursery grounds for ocean animals, mitigating wave energy from storms, acting as a buffer from ocean acidification, and much more.

So the next time you find yourself strolling the Vancouver seawall, stop by Provence Marinaside, and look for the EcoChit QR code on your receipt.

You’ll find the experience rejuvenating in more ways than one.
